WELCOME TO THE INF 370 SURVIVAL GUIDE OF
ALIFEROUS
Who and WHAT is Aliferous?
Aliferous
Adjective. (comparative more aliferous, superlative most aliferous)
Having wings; winged.
We are a group of 5 BCom Informatics students at the University of Pretoria completing our year project for INF370.
Aliferous has set their views on developing a Farm Management system, FarmIT, where we aim to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and usability of Farm Management.

Meet the Team
Leader &
Project Manager

Amandla Mgijima (AKA Mom)
I am Amandla Mgijima also known to my Aliferous team as the mediator and cheerleader of the group. I was the group leader and basically managed the groups quality of work, documentation, communication (Yes, I annoyed the living daylights out of my group members on WhatsApp) but most importantly motivated the team to always do their best in each deliverable. In 370 I learned that the bad news is time flies but the good news is you’re the pilot. So plan out the journey properly and you may expect an amazing flight.
Armand Jordaan (AKA Arrie)
I am an analytical and motivated individual who strives towards critical thinking, innovation and creative problem-solving. I have strong technical skills and the self-drive to always aspire for greater heights. I am passionate about Information Systems, Big Data and Gaming.

Co-Ordinator & System Developer

Solutions
Architect
Anne Lin (AKA Animation)
I enjoy doing almost anything visual on computers, including video editing, Photoshop, HCI and CSS. Even dragging lines for the DFDs and trying to get System Architect working was fun (Definitely Not)
Morale of our story: Make sure 1 set of CRUD is 100% fine before continuing (We had a great time changing some small things)
Hint: Ctrl + H is your best friend for the year
Siyabonga Zwane (AKA Siya)
My role in the team was spent more on learning and practicing. As a programmer it is important to be a well-rounded and skilled person in fields such as systems architecture, network security and others to really make an impact. Some of the important lessons I’ve learnt is understanding client needs, teamwork, and having an appreciation for planning, designing, implementing and maintaining a large project.

System &
Design Analyst
Joy Lowe (AKA Jo Lo)
I was Lead Systems Analyst and Head of Documentation, which means Amanda and I spent many all nighters tediously labeling figures and fixing text wrapping.
In 370 I learned that the way to succeed is to work to each other’s strengths, build each other up and remember that you all share a common goal.
Word of advice: get to know Systems Architect inside out in 2nd year.

OUR CLIENT
Jordaan Boerdery was founded in 2002, it began as small farm with a herd of cattle. Over the years, Jordaan Boerdery grew rapidly and expanded their farming expertise to cultivating land and sowing maize and soybean. The company currently uses a paper-based approach to keep track of their crops, the fields that have crops planted on it and the different lands that the farm has, as well as capturing the costs surrounding this on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

Meet the CLIENT

ELZA JORDAAN
Elza Jordaan grew up on a farm in Namibia which is owned by her parents to this day. She grew up being exposed to crop farming as a lifestyle and despite this farming lifestyle, she completed a BSc Computer Science at UNISA. She has worked in many places, including Namibia, South Africa, Scotland and England. Her experience ranges from working as a computer science lecturer to owning her own consulting firm.
FarmIT is a system that manages the crucial aspects of farming, including Farm Worker attendance, ensuring Crop Rotation, Vehicle Servicing notification and many more.
We believe that FarmIT can bring evolution to South Africa's farming industry by making farming more efficient and effective.
